"Planning your estate can be an enjoyable process. I can help you design an estate plan that is aligned with your values and goals."

Attorney Thomas Flannagan concentrates his practice in the areas of estate planning, elder law/long-term care planning, and probate administration. Tom says, "I have a great practice with wonderful clients. Certain aspects of the legal profession can be extremely adversarial, stressful, and time-consuming for both the client and the attorney. The estate and elder law planning field, on the other hand, naturally lends itself to win-win relationships. My clients are happy that they have finally created a comprehensive plan for themselves and I have enjoyed helping them achieve this important goal."

Tom knows that most clients are concerned about two things: creating an estate or long-term care plan that will carry out their wishes while keeping them in a position of control over their assets for as long as possible. Selecting the right attorney is a vital part of this process. He says, "It is possible that the client has never met with an attorney like me before and really does not know what to expect from an estate planning attorney. This is a relationship business. It's my job to make sure that my clients understand how my recommendations will solve their problems, meet their needs, fulfill their wishes and trust me with the technical aspects of the plan. I do not ‘sell documents'. I create custom solutions which are based upon each client's unique situation."

Part of Tom's job is to motivate and inspire clients to do the right thing for themselves and their families. He says, "Some well-meaning people say that they will get to this important work but their failure to plan can be a recipe for disaster down the road. I help people who are serious about having a comprehensive estate plan in place for the reasons that are important to them. People should embrace, not dread, this process. It's very gratifying to see my clients smiling as they leave our office with the peace of mind that results from having the right plan in place. I congratulate these clients for taking charge of their futures and avoiding the costly choice of procrastination."

Since 1990, Tom has been licensed to practice before the Courts of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the United States District Court of Massachusetts. Tom earned both his Juris Doctor and Master of Science in Accounting degrees from Northeastern University. Prior to joining Alexandrov, Metzger & Flannagan, Tom directed the Graduate Tax Program at Northeastern University where he oversaw a program with over 180 students and 20 faculty members. Tom is a member of WealthCounsel, a national estate planning organization with over 3,000 member attorneys, and is also a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.
